ABOUT ME
Lee Massey (ex euro pro)
Coach Lee Massey.
I grew up in Camden County Georgia, and attended Camden County High School and played several sports. Baseball was my favorite at that time, but I wrestled, played football, basketball and ran track during my 4 years of High School.
I developed basketball skills in my neighborhood, not on a basketball goal w/a rim, but on “home-made baskets” from bicycle rims and peach baskets without nets. We played on dirt or grassy areas until the rims fell off or it was too dark to see.
During my high school years the basketball coach played me in three different positions, point guard, 2nd guard and shooting forward. I started my last 2 years at the two guard position. I attended a 2 year college program at Selma University College on a baseball scholarship.
I tried out for the basketball team as a so called “walk-on” and made the basketball team because I was a hustler and kept my head up, no matter what. After sitting on the bench for the first seven games I finally got my chance. The coach put me in and I scored 14 points, had 4 rebounds, in only 7 minutes of play. I started every game after that.
After I completed the 2-year program at Selma I attended Stillman College for one year, played baseball only, missed basketball a lot and then decided to join the air force. I completed my air force training at Lackland Airforce Base in Texas, and was stationed at Soesterberg Airforce base in the Netherlands.
I played for the base basketball team, called the Wolfhounds for 7 years, averaged 32 points per game and I also played for several local Dutch teams (Stoepie Shooters/Best Data/Sport Life Canadians/Dunkers).
One of the local dutch teams called the Stoepie Shooters, made it to the highest division of the Netherlands and had several sponsors interested because of my contributions to the team. I averaged 27 points/8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots per game.
